It's easiest to put it in the form of this incredulous question, asked by whomever:

"You mean you haven't seen ______????"

Rocky fits there better than any of the other choices.

I will have to think more about the pecking order after Rocky, but Rocky is the winner here. Maybe Mary Poppins next.

Travis, well played on the Sox wisecrack -- we are especially vulnerable at the moment. I'd make a similar crack back to you, but my bold and totally random prediction for this postseason has Cincinnati beating Baltimore in the World Series. If that happens, you read it here first.Derek Armstronghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13750747272647975591noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7877371347086447490.post-78389065801483192812012-09-29T07:05:33.471+10:002012-09-29T07:05:33.471+10:00I've seen and loved Sunrise and Persona. I can't say that they're particularly "embarrassing" blind spots, though, since they're not nearly as recognizable as, say, Rocky. Joe Sixpack hasn't even heard of Sunrise or Persona, so he doesn't care that you haven't seen those.

If you live near a Cinemark, they're going to screen Mary Poppins on 17 October. I personally hate the movie, but that's hardly relevant.

Oh, and the answer to your title's question is: you're a Red Sox fan. That never goes out of style as something to be embarrassed about.Travis S. In my admittedly rudimentary, totally subjective and personal Top 5 Best Ever that one makes the list.Nick Priggehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17895803287589438170noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7877371347086447490.post-80786474545646431562012-09-28T06:34:03.947+10:002012-09-28T06:34:03.947+10:00I've seen all of these, and my vote would be f...I've seen all of these, and my vote would be for Rocky. It's the film from the list with, by far, the largest impact on the pop culture of the last 40 years, and I'd also add that in the wake of all the sequels, it has been forgotten how good it actually is — and how emblematic of the wonderful grittiness of 70s movies.

From there, one could make an argument as to why each of the remaining films needs to be seen. But to me, it's Rocky that stands out. And as a disclaimer, I hope it goes without saying that I'm not arguing that it's the best film on that list. Also Once Upon the Time in the West (not a huge fan of OUATI America) is something that needs to be seen, though I'm not sure how ultimately important I think it is.

So any of those three.Don Handsomehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04448844952916507647noreply@blogger.com
